THE BASKETBALL DIARIES (1978) has inspired and intrigued a legion of fans around the globe, reached #7 on the New York Times Bestsellers list, and was adapted into a movie staring Leonardo DiCaprio in 1995. Jim is also Viking Penguin’s best-selling poet. His most recent collection, VOID OF COURSE (1998), features the popular “8 Fragments for Kurt Cobain,” which Jim read on MTV’s “Unplugged” just days after Kurt’s death. Other books include Living at the Movies (1973), Forced Entries (1987), The Book of Nods (1986), and Fear of Dreaming (1993). Discovered by The Stones’ Keith Richards, The Jim Carroll Band released three successful albums on Atlantic in the 1980s. The band enjoys a loyal following to this day, as evidenced by a well-received 20-song tribute album currently receiving airplay on hundreds of college and alternative radio stations across the USA. The band’s first album, CATHOLIC BOY (1980), produced the hit song PEOPLE WHO DIED, a punk anthem, which is still receives air play on alternative FM radio. Since the mid 80s, Jim has worked with a diverse collection of artists including Lou Reed, Rancid, Sonic Youth, Ray Manzarek, Pearl Jam, Marianne Faithfull, Richard Hell, Allen Ginsberg, and William Burroughs. Jim’s most recent work includes RUNAWAY EP (2000), released on the Kill Rock Stars label, and POOLS OF MERCURY (1998), a mix of spoken-word and rock, was released on Mercury Records. More info >>
