{"id":4172,"date":"2022-01-10T22:18:04","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T22:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8000\/?page_id=4172"},"modified":"2025-03-08T00:35:36","modified_gmt":"2025-03-08T08:35:36","slug":"uncollected-poems-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.catholicboy.com\/WP\/works\/articles-poems-by-jim-carroll\/uncollected-poems-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Uncollected Poems #2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>These seven poems by Jim Carroll were published in <em>Big Sky<\/em> magazine, issue #9 (1975), and nowhere else &#8212; until Kevin Opstedal compiled them into the limited edition <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicboy.com\/WP\/works\/literary-works\/limited-editions-broadsides\/bolinas-poems-2\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"8785\">Bolinas Poems<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For John Wieners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We read life&#8217;s<br>style review shaking<br>from pacts drawn up in past<br>to weep for lost loves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5\/23\/74<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kitten (self pity)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I hear kitten pawing<br>Cheap rug above my head<br>The plain fact, you see,<br>He is one flight closer<br>To a moon than I becomes<br>A frightening idea in my mind, almost dawn<br>Trying to raise the body&#8217;s warmth<br>Tomorrow<br>I will never be twenty-three years old again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7\/30\/74<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dealers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ju-jus weaned on jargon of light weight siblings,<br>Quasi-larcenous and petite . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>acquiesce under parasols<br>the tudor edge<br>of ultra-mexicans bespecled in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>polaroid filter .<br>. . clandestine drop-offs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>substituting the<br>twigs of Thai<br>For the weeds of dill . . . cautious<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of dos per diem manicure,<br>fortified<br>&#8220;con gelatin&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>practitioners of<br>isometrics with hair<br>unflinching (often variegated)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>facilitated via Brylcreem,<br>the legacy<br>of ambergris often<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>pearly-gated before<br>his time by heavy caliber,<br>followed with undesired undulation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>among the trees of<br>bone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8\/74<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I&#8217;m Living Inside Again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>fuzzy jingles snail themselves<br>to a brain leave . . . munch<br>in cute arcs tired riffs of t.v. swamp<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>mutts snore under<br>finger tips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a rush of familiars<br>climb the spine like pegged legs<br>up stairs of termite feasts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a few fresh dreads<br>introduce themselves<br>over handball in the belly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>hands vibrate to<br>memories<br>of trapped elevators like epileptic hummingbirds . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ah yes . . .<br>epileptic hummingbirds . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>rude insects clog<br>the pores in sweat sewers<br>from graceless anxiety of mother and church<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>an old regular jams<br>out record feats<br>of front brain solos<br>in heavy runs of wah-wah<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>hors d&#8217;oeuvres of<br>rich paranoia<br>sink the bowels to churn<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>this is the age where<br><br>the two mushrooms merge<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>vision inside the<br>atom bursting<br>like the cells of oranges crushed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>persistent woes skate<br>the eyeballs&#8217;<br>frozen fear, that&#8217;s the sound<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of ice caving<br>in . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12\/26\/74<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Edmund Joseph Berrigan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lovely tones of mist sweep<br>off the channels of England<br>and the Irish sea ring<br>with the strength of a home,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from where you are<br>and from where<br>you come a heritage<br>of an older, more final poetry<br>fills the breath of a new age<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edmund Joseph Berrigan<br>born today across the cool Atlantic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>here in America another<br>sea . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from this you have<br>grown<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and so will he<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8\/6\/74<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Breakfast Poem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First morning air of ocean grief<br>down Brighton Ave. flow like solid<br>raft through calm river . . .
