I need to completely rethink the audio section of this site. In my opinion it is one of the most important aspects of JC’s work. So this is a new experiment on how to organize audio recordings.
The first recordings I am adding here are not organized in any special way. They are just the recordings that inspired me to rethink how to organize recordings.
Jim Carroll at Cubby Bear – Chicago, IL 04-19-1989
Thank you Sandra Ludwig for telling me about this on archive.org! This is an exceptionally good recording of a spoken word recording generously loaned to archive.org (and “borrowed” here) from the Aadam Jacobs Audio Archive.

Jim Carroll at The Moth – Central Park Summer Stage, NYC 07-17-2003
This is Carroll’s “Colonic” monologue, one of my favorites. As he performed this monologue, he would often demonstrate the poses of the toy green army men. This is cut off. I will try to find the whole recording . . .

SUNY Binghamton (now Binghamton University)
24 March 1992
This solo spoken-word performance recorded and shared by Jason Grazuliz (on MD) represents a key moment when Carroll was actively working on multiple works. At the time of this recording he is promoting both Forced Entries and Praying Mantis, but he is also writing new poetry. He reads several poems that didn’t make the cut for either Fear of Dreaming or Void of Course (but at least one that did). At this time he is also actively working on The Petting Zoo. I have started adding details of the recording to each track . . .

Bottom Line – NYC – 29 Apr 1985
This one is two years before I encountered Jim Carroll, and it has some early versions of pieces from Forced Entries. (I have started IDing the names of the published chapters. E.g., “Papillion D’Mour” is “A Day at the Races.” And “Meeting Allen Ginsberg” is “The Poet and The Vibrator.” “The Day I Was Born” is “A Birthdary.”
