1968 Trinity School Yearbook
In the Fall of 1964, having earned an academic and athletic scholarship, Jim Carroll started high school at the elite Trinity School on Manhattan's upper west side. Trinity School features prominently in The Basketball Diaries, so I thought it would be fun to see who the real people and places are that Carroll writes about. The photos in this album are from the Trinity School yearbook of 1968, Carroll's senior year.
Although I have good evidence to support the identification of Jim Carroll's "characters" in The Basketball Diaries as the real people depicted in Trinity's Yearbook, I want to emphasize that these identifications are my interpretations. Carroll concealed their identities for a reason, and I respect his decision to do so.
Thanks to Wilson Smith for lending me his Trinity yearbook!!!
